Anderson batted .294 in 40 games with the Braves last season. This is the first full big league season for the

6-foot-2, 195 pound former Eastern Kentucky standout, who was a fourth-round selection of the Houston Astros in 2003. He led the nation in steals that year with 57.

Through four games with the Tigers , Anderson was

0-for-6, struck out twice, walked once and scored one run. But Monday, in his third start of the season and his first at Comerica Park, he got his first hit on the first pitch he saw from Chicago White Sox right-hander Gavin Floyd -- a line-shot single to right field -- driving in his first run of the season in the second inning.

In the fifth inning, Anderson ripped a double to right-center and drove in two more runs. He finished 2-for-5 on the day, tying his career-high with three RBIs in the game.

"He did fine," Leyland said. "The biggest thing I thought you saw, and the reason why we wanted him, was on the one hit he got. He got a double out of it, and that's not a double for many guys. And he made it pretty comfortably. He made some nice contributions today, and I'm glad to have him."

"I couldn't wait to see the first pitch today," Anderson said. "I'm just glad for the opportunity.

AFTER HIS MAJOR league debut in Toronto, Rick Porcello makes his first start in Comerica Park today. "Making my first start at home, it's going to be pretty special," said Porcello, who went 5 innings, giving up nine hits and fours runs against the Blue Jays. "These past couple of days, it was pretty cool seeing all the fans and I'm looking forward to it."

JOEL ZUMAYA, who made a rehabilitation appearance Saturday with the Lakeland (Fla.) Flying Tigers , the organization's high Class-A club, said he feels good. "I've heard no negative response from a health standpoint, and as long as he's healthy, I think he's moving forward," Leyland said.

Carlos Guillen left Sunday's game in the eighth inning with a sore right Achilles tendon. He is listed as day-to-day. Guillen was the designated hitter in Monday's game against the Chicago White Sox, going 1-for-3 with a single and two walks. Leyland said he hopes Guillen is back in the lineup today. "It's good ... better," Guillen said. Leyland said he would wait until today to decide whether to put Guillen back in left field.

CATCHER GERALD LAIRD was sick Monday, but Leyland expects he will be available today.
