Carlos Quentin's season appears to be over as the left fielder and MVP candidate suffered a fractured right wrist that will require surgery Monday.

"It happened Monday in my last at-bat against (Cleveland pitcher) Cliff Lee," Quentin said. "I fouled off the second pitch and did something I've done since I was a kid. I had the bat in my left hand and hit it with my right hand.

"Forty minutes later, I started feeling something in my wrist. The next morning, that was that."

Quentin is hopeful he can return this season.

"I'm going to have surgery to insert an internal kind of splint, something that will let me have mobility and a quicker rehab time," he said. "They're going to check it in 2-3 weeks and determine if I can pick up a bat.

"I'm very disappointed with this injury, especially this time of the season. I've had a couple of days to reflect on it. I'm ready to move on to the next step, heal as quickly as I can and come back. I'm going to stay positive and hold onto the possibility that I'll come back (this season). The bone that's fractured is not displaced. It's a small fracture.

"I've had a good season and I'm hoping I can continue with this season," Quentin said. "The frustrating thing is not being on the field with these guys."

Ozzie Guillen said players have to stop taking out their frustration in potentially dangerous ways.

"Players have to learn you can be frustrated and upset, but you can't do some things," Guillen said. "You're always going to lose that battle.

"You hurt the ballclub, but you have to move on. We played two games without him and won one."

Guillen said he'll figure out what his best lineup is day to day.

"Are we going to miss this guy? Of course," Guillen said. "But if I feel sorry for everyone, I'll lose the respect of the players."

WHITE SOX 10, ANGELS 2: Life without Carlos Quentin began on Friday, and with nice results as far as the Sox were concerned. Thanks to two home runs from Juan Uribe and Paul Konerko also dialing deep, the Sox offense didn't miss a step -- at least as far as Day 1 without their injured up-and-coming star.

Then again, considering Mark Buehrle handcuffed the Angels lineup over six innings, allowing just three hits, things were made much easier for the hitters. Before the game, the Sox announced that Quentin would have surgery on Monday on his right wrist to repair a fracture. He will likely miss the remainder of the regular season.
