"I went with that lineup because I've got too many lefties together," Guillen said. "I want to spread the lefties out a bit more. I put Fields second because I felt he was swinging the bat a little bit better."
Not that it helped the Sox end a three-game losing streak to the Twins, but Getz and Fields did combine to go 2-for-4, with Fields picking up two RBI in his new spot.
As for the rest of the order, Guillen put A.J. Pierzynski back down, following up Paul Konerko, with Dewayne Wise now finding himself in the ninth spot, after starting the season as the leadoff hitter. An 0-for-8 start and boos from the home crowd led to Guillen switching Getz into the top Thursday, and also getting agitated with the daily media questions about the top of the order.
"I wish whoever I put in the leadoff spot will do the job because I'm tired of the same question, believe me," Guillen said. "I've been answering the same question since spring training. Yeah, (Getz is) going to be there. I think he got good at-bats. I think we're going to use him for a little while and see what happens."
As far as the booing that seems to still be following the slow start of the offense, Guillen said he was taking suggestions.
"I just laugh because I went back in my e-mails and I have 35 lineups that people think will help me," Guillen said. "We're just not hitting. We're playing well, but we're just not hitting. We don't have anything going for us right now. When you're not producing, a lot of people come with ideas."
TWINS 12, SOX 5: The Sox finally had some sort of life in their lineup, including doing what they do best, hitting two homers in the game. But unfortunately for them, the pitching was a no-show in the loss to Minnesota.
Jose Contreras struggled with his control early before settling in and actually having a solid outing. But the bullpen imploded as Mike MacDougal and D.J. Carrasco were battered for eight runs.
And as for Joe Crede's return to the South Side, the longtime Sox third baseman didn't disappoint with his new team -- he homered and also made a diving stop at third base midway through the game.
"He played his game," Guillen said. "Made the plays at third base and hit the home run."
