Whitesoxclub.com | Chicago White sox News, whitesox Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - Mark Buehrle likes the direction he and his White Sox teammates are going but also warned Sox fans that it was still too early to start thinking about the World Series.
"I think a win like Tuesday is a start," Buehrle said. "I think if you look back at '05 (championship year), there were a lot of games like this, where we would get down early or late and still come back -- where last year we got down 1-0 and it seemed like everyone would pack it up and be ready to take themselves home. It's definitely a different feeling now if we get down, early or late. We feel like we still have a chance to come back. "I like everything I've seen so far, but I keep hearing from neighbors and people in my neighborhood, 'We're going to see you in the World Series?' I keep telling them there is a lot of baseball left, let's see. I like how everything is going right now, but there is a lot left."
And as it was evident on Wednesday, not everything was perfect.
Paul Konerko is still fuzzy about when he and his injured left oblique will be ready to begin a rehab assignment in Class AAA Charlotte, but he did have an intense batting practice session for a second consecutive day.
"It's still in there but I'm in control of it, not the other way around," Konerko said. "It probably will be in there for a while, but I think it's ready to getting game-ready for Triple-A soon. If it's ready for that, then it's a matter of getting my bearings back. I got to play first base. It's not all hitting. I want to get some bad throws where I have to reach. I think it's right there.
"The worst thing I could do is try to come right back, do something, and have to go back on the (15-day disabled list)."
Then there's closer Bobby Jenks, who manager Ozzie Guillen confessed that he had shut down for a couple days because of a stiff back. Guillen didn't seem overly concerned, but it's definitely something to watch.
Add to the fact that Ken Williams is still trying to trade Juan Uribe -- with Baltimore now looking like a possible suitor -- and no wonder Buehrle has a "let's wait and see" attitude.
WHITE SOX 6, INDIANS 5 (10 innings): With the rain coming down and the game tied, A.J. Pierzynski hit his second homer of the game and his most important one of the season. His walk-off shot helped the Sox complete the sweep of the fading Indians.
With Bobby Jenks still nursing a sore back, Ozzie Guillen had to go with Scott Linebrink in the ninth. The result was a Grady Sizemore home run that tied it back up. Starter Jose Contreras went six innings, allowing four runs (three earned).
