Chicago White Sox Notes, Quotes 2008-04-29
--OF Jermaine Dye was still out of the starting lineup on Monday, as a left groin pull suffered last Thursday was still a bit achy. With back-to-back series coming up in Minnesota and Toronto -- both fields with turf -- manager Ozzie Guillen didn't want to push Dye back too quickly. He may also take his time putting Dye back in this week. Nick Swisher has filled in for Dye in right field, with reserve Brian Anderson getting another start in center field.

--3B Joe Crede was back in the starting lineup on Monday, after sitting out on Sunday. Crede played in both doubleheader games Saturday, and manager Ozzie Guillen wanted to rest the third baseman for the upcoming week. Expect Guillen to once again watch Crede closely -- especially coming off season-ending surgery last June and now playing on turf all week. "We're going to be playing on artificial turf on this road trip (in Minnesota and Toronto later this week), so I want to keep him as strong and as healthy as we can," Guillen said.

--Manager Ozzie Guillen said that he still isn't planning any changes at the top of his lineup, despite the fact that Nick Swisher is now hitting .221, while Orlando Cabrera and Jim Thome are both hitting .214. As far as Guillen was concerned, all three have a track record that he feels will start to even itself out. Thome has been a notorious slow starter throughout his career, and Guillen also pointed to the fact that the Sox have spent the first month of the season playing in less-than-stellar weather.

--RHP Scott Linebrink will likely be unavailable for Tuesday's game with Minnesota after throwing two innings of relief in Monday's eventually suspended 12-inning game. Pitching coach Don Cooper wasn't overly concerned, however, with RHP Octavio Dotel and Ehren Wassermann both fresh for the showdown with the Twins.

--2B Juan Uribe hit a solo home run in the 11th inning to tie the game back up, and now the hope was that the at-bat could be exactly what Uribe needed to get him going. It was his first home run in his last 61 at-bats, as his average is now .167. Alexei Ramirez got the starting nod at second, but went 0-for-3 to watch his average drop to .121.

BY THE NUMBERS: 12-12 -- The Sox' record through their first 24 games last season, compared to the 14-10 start this year. The big difference? At no point last season were they ever four games above .500.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "The most hilarious thing about him is he talks about himself in third person. It's like, 'Dirty 30" would do this or do that.' The whole infatuation he has with himself is funny. You don't see that many players into the fact that they love calling themselves 'Dirty 30.'" -- Sox third baseman Joe Crede, on teammate Nick Swisher.
