Chicago White Sox Notes, Quotes 2008-09-16
--The Sox continued to take steps forward in trying to get out of their lease in Tucson, Ariz., which runs through 2012. According to vice president of communications Scott Reifert, results of an independent study were presented to the Pima County Board on Monday where it was shown that the city would make a $36-million profit by letting the Sox leave this spring for Glendale, Ariz., turning the current Sox facility into a youth baseball facility that hosts tournaments year round. "It would probably play out in the next month or two, so we should have an answer," Reifert said. "It will be a process. But I'd hope by Thanksgiving we'd have some sense of where we're going."

--1B Paul Konerko took about 30 cuts in the batting cage on Monday, and afterward declared himself fit to return to the starting lineup. The first baseman has been on the shelf the last week with a mild sprain of the right MCL, and was hoping to return for Tuesday night's game.

--3B Joe Crede did not make the trip with his teammates to New York, instead flying to Dallas to get yet another opinion on what to do about his ailing back. The plan was for Crede to meet with a specialist and then weigh his options. Crede was still insisting before he left that he was not ready to call his 2008 season over with, but manager Ozzie Guillen seemed more than willing to move on without him, continuing to stick with Juan Uribe now, and for the remainder of the year.

--RHP Scott Linebrink is still not where Guillen would like him to be after his first three outings, but Guillen wasn't about to give up on the veteran down the stretch, either. Linebrink missed almost two months with what was called inflammation in the right posterior of his shoulder. He's pitched three innings since coming back from the DL, allowing two earned runs in his latest outing on Sunday. "Obviously he's only got three outing since he's been back," Guillen said. "He threw one good one... (Sunday) he made a good pitch to the guy, it was low and away and the guy hit a home run. (In) the last couple of outings, I like what I see."

--RHP Lance Broadway could now pitch on Wednesday, but Guillen still wasn't committing too far ahead on which pitchers would make up his starting rotation. "I don't know yet," Guillen said of the vacancy that now sits on Wednesday. "It depends on how we play now on who we will use, who we won't use. I cannot make that decision because right now I might have to use one in the bullpen, so I cannot make that decision."

BY THE NUMBERS: 9-30 -- The Sox's record through Sept. 12 in games in which they had not hit a homer in this season.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "The only thing a lot of people look at is the batting average, but I'm hitting decent power numbers -- maybe not to what I want, but close -- but I'm not going to grade myself. I grade myself on what the team does and right now it's an A because no one thought we would be in this position." -- 1B/OF Nick Swisher, on his season, despite his disappointing numbers.
