Chicago White Sox Notes, Quotes 2009-01-20
--RHP Bobby Jenks, the last arbitration-eligible player left on the roster, reached a one-year agreement with the White Sox. He will make $5.6 million this year -- more than 10 times his $550,000 salary last year.

--RHP Bartolo Colon was bring brought in to help the back end of the starting rotation, but if the veteran is healthy, it also means RHPs Jeff Marquez, Lance Broadway and LHP Clayton Richard will compete for only one job. Marquez is the leading candidate, while Richard could still capture a spot in the bullpen. LHP Aaron Poreda, however, will be a sleeper.

--C Tyler Flowers, the youngster acquired in the Javier Vazquez trade, will be one of 18 non-roster invitees coming to spring camp. Flowers likely won't be ready until the 2010 season at the earliest, and the White Sox have C A.J. Pierzynski in place through 2011. However, some in the organization wouldn't be surprised to see Flowers in 2009, possibly as a September call-up.

--Board chairman Jerry Reinsdorf was able to tour the team's new Camelback Ranch facility in Glendale, Ariz., and continued to come away completely impressed with what the shared complex with the Los Angeles Dodgers will mean to the two teams and their fans. "It's important to share a facility with someone you get along with," Reinsdorf said of the move. It doesn't hurt that Reinsdorf has a home in the Phoenix area, as do numerous White Sox players and general manager Ken Williams. That means a lot of people in the organization sleeping in their own beds rather than making the two-hour commute to Tucson, where they were since 1998. "It's terrific," Reinsdorf added. "Our players won't have to spend their days on buses."

--RHP Mike MacDougal was given a non-roster invite to spring training, where he will get one last chance to resurrect his faded career. With the bullpen likely all but set, however, MacDougal will have to really impress to break with the club.

BY THE NUMBERS: 291 -- The number of home runs hit by Paul Konerko in a White Sox uniform, leaving him second on the franchise's all-time list behind Frank Thomas (448).

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I don't have any timeframe, any timetable to do anything. We are in the fortunate position to where we have good young players, and we've acquired more depth." -- General manager Ken Williams on what the rest of the offseason likely holds for the White Sox.
