Chicago White Sox Notes, Quotes 2008-08-28
--SS Orlando Cabrera was back in the starting lineup Tuesday, and in impressive fashion by matching a season high of four hits. But Cabrera did admit that life as the leadoff hitter has been tougher to get used to than he expected. "It probably took me until about three weeks ago," Cabrera said with a laugh when asked how long it took him to get comfortable in that top spot. "It's true. It's always difficult to get your mind on getting on base, stealing bases and just score runs. But I think I'm comfortable a couple of months already. It seems like it's working out."

--OF Carlos Quentin picked up his 100th RBI in the 8-3 win over the Orioles on Tuesday, as well as earning further praise from manager Ozzie Guillen about his MVP-type season. "I always say, 'Work hard, it pays off,'" Guillen said of Quentin. "This kid is a workaholic. He never takes anything for granted. Hopefully, there are more years to come with 100 RBI, and his teammates have a lot to do with that. I think this kid is outstanding. Not because he has the kind of year he has. If you have this kid, day in and day out, you see how he prepares and gets ready. You don't see too many young guys grab this game the way he does. Some kids go out there and are ready to be in the big leagues and try to enjoy it. He wants to be good."

--OF Nick Swisher was evaluated before Wednesday's game after leaving Tuesday's game in the fourth inning following a pitch that he fouled off of his left leg. He was cleared to play and did so in left field for a resting Carlos Quentin.

--3B Joe Crede had started two games in a row before Ozzie Guillen opted to give him Wednesday's game off. Guillen stressed that Crede's back was not in any pain, but opted to be cautious with the third baseman, considering he missed almost a month with back problems.

--RHP Lance Broadway was used as a long reliever, ending any speculation that Broadway would start over Clayton Richard the next time the Sox need a No. 5 starter. Manager Ozzie Guillen had been weighing using Broadway as a starter, but he will now keep him in the bullpen.

BY THE NUMBERS: 7.15 -- Through Aug. 24, the ERA for White Sox relievers in the eighth inning since Scott Linebrink left that role with an injured shoulder in late June. Linebrink was dominant in the eighth-inning role with a 0.67 ERA in 29 appearances.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "JD is the most consistent player in the five years I've been here. He puts up numbers, is the MVP of the World Series, and no one knows about it. I love him. He's the most consistent player I've ever had." -- White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen on the importance of Jermaine Dye to the lineup.
