Whitesoxclub.com | Chicago White sox News, whitesox Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - The team's front office and coaching staff had been saying all along that the team would give off a "different look" this season, especially on the offensive side of the ball, but it's still homer or bust through the first handful of games. The one aspect of the team that has lived up to expectations was the starting staff, with all five giving the Sox a chance to win and keeping them in the game.
PLAYER NEWS: --INF Brent Lillibridge made the start at second base and in the leadoff spot Monday, one day after regular starting 2B Chris Getz had to leave the game with what was being called a bruised right elbow. Getz was plunked by reliever Craig Breslow near the right elbow in Sunday's win over the Twins, and he was still nursing the badly bruised area prior to the opening game of the Tigers series. Bad timing for Getz, who grew up about 20 minutes from old Tiger Stadium and was looking forward to playing in what was basically his own back yard. "It means a lot coming home to Detroit, first time coming through," Getz said. "It's a pretty special thing. So hopefully I'm able to get one of these games in, maybe two." Manager Ozzie Guillen said the team would be careful with Getz, however, not looking to rush him back.
--3B Josh Fields was back in the No. 2 spot, and he could find himself there as long as he continues to produce. That was fine with Fields, who has suddenly added some small-ball components to his game this season. "I know I get confidence from it knowing they feel good enough to move me around like that and know that I can handle wherever they put me," Fields said. "With guys like Carlos (Quentin), Jim (Thome), Jermaine (Dye) and Paul (Konerko) coming up behind you, you know you're going to get good pitches to hit. I don't know the exact reason they've moved me there -- I know it's not my base-stealing -- but I'm excited."
--OF Brian Anderson is about to see his workload increase now that Dewayne Wise has a separated right shoulder, but he was very low-key about it. "I don't know what's going on," Anderson said after the game. "Probably (Tuesday) I'll get an inclination of what's going on. As of now, I don't know because I haven't talked to anyone. I'm just going to go one game at a time. I don't know what the front office is doing. I have no idea. If I'm in there, good. If I'm not, good luck to the guy who is in there."
MEDICAL WATCH:
CF Dewayne Wise (separated right shoulder) left the April 13 game. He will be placed on the disabled list, and he is expected to miss six to eight weeks.
2B Chris Getz (bruised right elbow) was hurt April 12, and he didn't play April 13. Manager Ozzie Guillen said the team wouldn't rush Getz back into action.
INF Jayson Nix (right quad) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He injured the leg early in camp, missed a week and then tried coming back, only to suffer a setback.
