Whitesoxclub.com | Chicago White sox News, whitesox Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - While manager Ozzie Guillen and his staff have at least discussed a scenario where Alexei Ramirez could be moved to center field, making room for top prospect Gordon Beckham to be called up to play short, Guillen said it's still too early to pull the trigger on that. They want Brian Anderson to get a good look in center first as well as make sure Beckham gets some more games under his belt.
PLAYER NEWS: --LF Carlos Quentin has hit seven home runs through his first 12 games, including a career first of hitting homers in three consecutive games. Just don't ask the soft-spoken outfielder if he's dialed in, especially after fracturing his right wrist at the end of last season and having to have surgery on the injury. "Ball's been getting over the fence," Quentin said. "Some have been hit well. Some have carried. I wasn't concerned with that. I was more focused on making sure I'm accountable with guys in scoring position and be accountable in big situations and continue to work on that. All the while, you can see how effective this lineup can be, one through nine, with our potential."
--CF Brian Anderson had a career-high three hits in the win Sunday, and could be easing the mind of the organization about searching outside the club for a centerfielder. Anderson, who took over for Dewayne Wise in center when Wise separated his shoulder last week, had a dismal first few games at the plate, but enters the Baltimore series hitting .273 and having good at-bats. "That's all I ask of Brian," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "I don't need him hitting 30 home runs, I just need good at-bats from him."
--RHP Gavin Floyd bounced back from a terrible second start in Detroit in which he allowed six earned runs on five hits in just five innings of work against the Tigers. The one stat that raised some eyebrows in that loss was seven walks. But in his Sunday win over the Rays, Floyd didn't have a single walk, fanning seven. "He got back under control after his last outing," catcher A.J. Pierzynski said. "He was kind of all over the place (against Detroit). It was good to see. We needed Gavin to go out and do that for us. He did it. He performed when we needed him to." Floyd is being heavily counted on this season, after winning 17 games last year.
--LHP Clayton Richard and RHP D.J. Carrasco continue to solidify the middle of the bullpen, eating up innings and helping save the likes of Scott Linebrink from being overused. Manager Ozzie Guillen has maintained all along that if Richard, Carrasco and Mike MacDougal could have solid seasons -- or at least two of the three at any given time -- the Sox would compete for a division title. Richard has a 2.70 ERA after his Sunday appearance, while Carrasco had one bad outing this season but has been good since then.
MEDICAL WATCH:
CF Dewayne Wise (separated right shoulder) went on the 15-day disabled list April 14. He is expected to be out until June.
INF Jayson Nix (right quad) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He injured the leg early in camp, missed a week and then tried coming back, only to suffer a setback. He is out indefinitely.
