Chicago White Sox Roster Report 2009-04-23

Chicago White Sox Roster Report 2009-04-23
While manager Ozzie Guillen and his staff have at least discussed a scenario where Alexei Ramirez could be moved to center field, making room for top prospect Gordon Beckham to be called up to play short, Guillen said it's still too early to pull the trigger on that. They want Brian Anderson to get a good look in center first as well as make sure Beckham gets some more games under his belt.

PLAYER NEWS:

--2B Chris Getz had one of his best games in a White Sox uniform Wednesday, picking up a career-best three hits, scoring three times and adding a stolen base. He continues to grow into the leadoff role, and he may give the Sox a legit top-of-the-order guy that they felt they were missing after Dewayne Wise struggled to start off the season. "I'm starting to feel more comfortable as a hitter, not just in the leadoff position," Getz said. "Just seeing pitches better, not trying to do too much. That's just what I'm going to try and do. Some days it will work, some days it won't."

--LHP John Danks is now 2-0 with a 0.95 ERA this season, but more important, at least in the eyes of manager Ozzie Guillen, is pushing his way into joining the elite of American League pitchers this season. And as Guillen pointed out, the acquisition of Danks prior to the 2007 season in the Brandon McCarthy trade with Texas was heavily scrutinized at the time. "How many times has (general manager) Kenny (Williams) made a trade or we do something people don't like, and at the end of the day, 'Wow, you guys are geniuses,'" Guillen said.

--Class AA Birmingham INF Gordon Beckham has been playing at second base since Jayson Nix began his rehab assignment with the team, but don't read too much into this. The Sox are very happy with the job Chris Getz has been doing at second for the big-league team. Beckham -- a natural shortstop -- was moved over so that the Sox can see what they have with Nix. They know Nix can play second and want to see how versatile he can be. Nix was the front-runner for the starting second base job in spring camp before an injured right quadriceps put him on the shelf.

MEDICAL WATCH:

INF Jayson Nix (right quad) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He began a rehab assignment with Class AA Birmingham on April 20.

CF Dewayne Wise (separated right shoulder) went on the 15-day disabled list April 14. He is expected to be out until June.
