Chicago White Sox Roster Report 2009-04-25

Chicago White Sox Roster Report 2009-04-25
While manager Ozzie Guillen and his staff have at least discussed a scenario where Alexei Ramirez could be moved to center field, making room for top prospect Gordon Beckham to be called up to play short, Guillen said it's still too early to pull the trigger on that. They want Brian Anderson to get a good look in center first as well as make sure Beckham gets some more games under his belt.

PLAYER NEWS:

--OF Brian Anderson has been hitting enough lately to not only get the critics off his back, but also to keep recently-signed OF Scott Podsednik at a safe distance down in Class AAA Charlotte. With two more hits in Friday's loss, all of a sudden Anderson is hitting .278 from that No. 9 spot. Meanwhile, Podsednik, who was signed as an insurance policy in case Anderson fell on his face, was scuffling around the .200 mark for the Knights.

--C Corky Miller got some playing time in mop-up duty Friday, but manager Ozzie Guillen said he wanted to get the catcher some work back in the starting lineup, possibly Saturday. Miller has only started two games so far, and Guillen doesn't want to tire out A.J. Pierzynski. Plus, Miller caught Buehrle last time in Toronto, and the two were a very effective duo.

--RHP Jack Egbert, who was called up when Mike MacDougal became too unreliable, is writing a quick ticket out of town. In his two outings, Egbert has been hit around, including six runs on seven hits in relief Friday. With LHP Aaron Poreda pitching well in Class AA Birmingham, Egbert could be on borrowed time with the big-league club. Poreda would give the Sox a hard-throwing lefty, joining LHP Matt Thornton and Clayton Richard out of the bullpen. Manager Ozzie Guillen already said he would like to have three lefties in the bullpen.

--RHP Bartolo Colon will continue to be on a short leash, as witnessed in Thursday's loss to Baltimore when Colon was pulled after just 63 pitches and three innings. "He wasn't throwing strikes," manager Ozzie Guillen said following the 6-2 loss at Camden Yards. "You have to throw strikes. When he makes his ball move, he's effective. He didn't make the right pitches, and if you do that against this ballclub, you're going to get hit."

MEDICAL WATCH:

LF Carlos Quentin (sore left hand) left the April 23 game. The team said he had a bruise and that he didn't require an X-ray. He played on April 24.

INF Jayson Nix (right quad) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He began a rehab assignment with Class AA Birmingham on April 20, and he moved to Class AAA Charlotte on April 23.
