Chicago White Sox Roster Report 2009-05-01

Chicago White Sox Roster Report 2009-05-01
The team's front office and coaching staff had been saying all along that the team would give off a "different look" this season, especially on the offensive side of the ball, but while they are getting production from the top of the new-look lineup, the home run is still their best source of scoring. The concerning aspect of the roster right now is the middle of the bullpen, which has changed looks three times already this year.

PLAYER NEWS:

--CF Brian Anderson was the latest White Sox player to have to spend extra hours in the training room, as he had to leave Wednesday's game with Seattle in the seventh inning, complaining of pain in his right oblique area. Anderson actually tweaked the muscle earlier in the game, but it got progressively worse as the game went on. He will be re-evaluated Friday.

--RHP Bartolo Colon pitched in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader and pitched well, but manager Ozzie Guillen has made the decision to bump him back a day, going with Game 2 starter John Danks on Sunday and Colon on Monday in Kansas City. The reason is to give Colon an extra day of rest, which the Sox have been trying to do with Colon and LHP Mark Buehrle whenever possible.

--2B Chris Getz had one final test on his fractured right middle finger and was told before leaving on the Texas trip that he was cleared to start Friday against the Rangers. Getz had been on the shelf since he was hurt Saturday morning during fielding drills. Getz will be needed, as Sox leadoff hitters are only batting .143 in his absence.

MEDICAL WATCH:

CF Brian Anderson (sore right oblique) left the April 29 game. He will be re-evaluated May 1.

DH Jim Thome (sore left heel) did not play on April 28-29, but he hopes to return May 1.

2B Chris Getz (fractured right middle finger) did not play April 25-29. He expects to play May 1.

INF Jayson Nix (right quad) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He began a rehab assignment with Class AA Birmingham on April 20, and he moved to Class AAA Charlotte on April 23.

CF Dewayne Wise (separated right shoulder) went on the 15-day disabled list April 14. He is expected to be out until at least late May.
