--OF Brian Anderson (right oblique) is on schedule to return from the 15-day disabled list on time, but he likely would have to take a quick rehab stint to Class AAA Charlotte to get a few at-bats. However, when Anderson is ready to return, the Sox likely will have to choose between Brent Lillibridge or Jayson Nix, and right now Nix is the favorite to remain in the majors. "Well, (Nix has) had great at-bats," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "Every at-bat he's had so far, even if he failed, he fights for it. He's seen some pretty good pitching, but I don't know yet. I have to see when Brian comes back what exactly we need at that particular time. What's more important is what we need at that time." --INF/OF Jayson Nix was used in left field for an inning Monday, but Ozzie Guillen said that no one should start expecting to see the natural second baseman in the outfield very often. "It was (an) emergency," Guillen said. "It's not something we're going to do every day. Hopefully we don't have to do that more often, but now we know he can be there for one inning or a couple hitters."
--DH Jim Thome passed Harmon Killebrew at 1,559 on the all-time walk list in Tuesday's game against the Royals, moving into 14th place. Next in his sights is Pete Rose, who had 1,566 in his career. As far as Thome's left heel that cost him a few games last week, he said that it was almost 100 percent and he was able to run full speed on it now.
MEDICAL WATCH:
RF Jermaine Dye (sore left hand) left the May 2 game. He sat out May 3-4, and he returned to the lineup May 5.
3B Josh Fields (hand) was out May 4 after getting hit by a pitch the night before. He returned to the lineup May 5.
CF Brian Anderson (sore right oblique) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 30. He could return after the minimum absence, but is likely to have a rehab stint with Class AAA Charlotte first.
CF Dewayne Wise (separated right shoulder) went on the 15-day disabled list April 14. He is expected to be out until at least late May.
