Whitesoxclub.com | Chicago White sox News, whitesox Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - --RHP Jose Contreras cleared waivers and was optioned down to Class AAA Charlotte on Monday, and the move was made at his request. According to manager Ozzie Guillen, the veteran wanted the demotion to the minors rather than try to work an inning here or there out of the bullpen. "I tip my hat to Jose," Guillen said. "He could be home right now collecting the White Sox money. He work hard and I have more respect for him than I ever have. Not too many players say, 'Listen, I need to do this to help you guys.' Other guys would say, 'I don't care. I make my money. I'll be home. I'll be in the bullpen and pitch once a month. Who cares?' He worries about this ballcub and cares about this ballclub. He's in my top three most respected players I ever have." Guillen also said that Contreras, who was 0-5, could be back quickly if he finds it with the Knights. "He wants to throw and he just said, 'Just let me go, just let me go. As soon as I'm ready to throw, I'll let you guys know,'" Guillen said. "I expect him to be back here. Yes."
--LHP Mark Buehrle will be flip-flopped in the starting rotation with LHP Clayton Richard so that Buehrle will pitch on Wednesday's get-away day and Richard will go on Tuesday. "Yeah, quite simply we had a chance to give Buehrle an extra day with an off day the next one, so why not?" pitching coach Don Cooper said. "That's the plan we've always had set up for him and it continues, so we're giving him an extra day when we can." --OF Scott Podsednik's wife, Lisa, gave birth to a baby girl on Sunday, and the outfielder is expected to return for Tuesday night's game at Cleveland. Manager Ozzie Guillen did not know if he would return Podsednik to the top of the lineup or keep him in the No. 9 spot.
--OF Brian Anderson (strained right oblique) could find himself shipped out for the start of his rehab assignment in the next few days. Anderson will be eligible to come off the DL by the weekend and could rejoin the team in Toronto if he doesn't have any setbacks.
--LHP Jimmy Gobble was called up to take the spot vacated by RHP Jose Contreras and was instantly thrown into the fire. He allowed one run in one-third of an inning Monday. "Maybe they're trying to find something that works throughout," Gobble said of what he's hoping to bring to the 'pen. "That's really the main concept, to find something that meshes together that they like."
MEDICAL WATCH:
CF Brian Anderson (sore right oblique) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 30. He could return after the minimum absence, but he is likely to have a rehab stint with Class AAA Charlotte first.
