Whitesoxclub.com | Chicago White sox News, whitesox Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - --LF Carlos Quentin was a late scratch Tuesday, as the bad news kept coming for the White Sox. Manager Ozzie Guillen was informed by Quentin that a sore left heel that had been bothering him for three days had reached the point where it was a concern. Not only was Guillen not thrilled with the fact that Quentin was keeping the injury quiet, but also that he likely lost his services until at least Friday, when the team starts a four-game series in Toronto.
"(Wednesday) is a day game, then we have (Thursday) off and Friday he will play," Guillen said. "I will keep an eye on him because he was feeling that the last three days and he (didn't) say anything. I wish he would have said he was sore, or I wish my players would be a little more open and say how they feel. Just because you have pain, you can't think, 'Oh, I want to play, it's a big series.' No, I don't want my players to take it that way. If they don't think they can be on the field, I would appreciate it if they would let me know. We know when guys are faking injuries, I've been in this game long enough to know that." The plan was for Quentin to receive a cortisone shot, and then the team would keep a close eye on him the next week. Even if he returns against the Jays, the Rogers Centre turf isn't very forgiving, so his playing time there could be monitored.
"My feel is I can't figure out this ballclub," Guillen said. "If it's not one thing it's another."
--CF Brian Anderson will be leaving the team on Wednesday morning so he can start his rehab assignment with Class AAA Charlotte, and possibly be back by the Toronto series on Friday. Anderson has been on the 15-day disabled list since May 1 with a strained right oblique. "He's going out (Wednesday), and we're shooting for Friday, Saturday or when we get back home, it depends on what we need," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "It depends on how he is swinging the bat and how he's doing down there." INF/OF Brent Lillibridge likely will be the odd man out when Anderson returns.
--OF Dewayne Wise made the road trip with the Sox so he can be under the watchful eye of trainer Herm Schneider as he continues to rehab from a separated shoulder he suffered in mid-April. Wise was expected to take batting practice on a regular basis on this trip, and if there are no setbacks, he could go on a rehab assignment in the next week to 10 days.
MEDICAL WATCH:
LF Carlos Quentin (sore left heel) did not play May 12, and he is unlikely to play before May 15.
CF Brian Anderson (sore right oblique) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 30. He is expected to start a rehab assignment with Class AAA Charlotte on May 13, and he could be activated by the White Sox as soon as May 15.
CF Dewayne Wise (separated right shoulder) went on the 15-day disabled list April 14. He hopes to be ready to start a rehab assignment in late May and return to the White Sox in early June.
