Chicago White Sox Roster Report 2009-05-14

Chicago White Sox Roster Report 2009-05-14
--OF Carlos Quentin said the cortisone shot he received in his left heel has already started working, and he planned to return to the starting lineup Friday in Toronto. As far as how the injury occurred in the first place, Quentin pointed to an April 28 doubleheader against Seattle, in which he was the designated hitter in Game 1. "It was kind of cold and I hit the bag wrong," Quentin said. "I played the rest of the day, woke up the next morning and it was aching. I got treatment on it. It went away, came back, went away and then it came back the worst just recently where I was feeling it in the outfield every single inning going in and out. I could tell this is bothering me. I had to do something for it. We took care of it right away." The Sox did use Quentin as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning against Cleveland, but he flew out with the bases loaded.

--DH Jim Thome had a noticeable limp as his left heel continued to get treatment. But manager Ozzie Guillen said after Tuesday's game that he had no plans to start Thome against Cliff Lee anyway, considering he was a career .208 hitter against Lee. Thome was expected to be back in the starting lineup on Friday, even with Toronto throwing lefty Brett Cecil out there.

--LHP Clayton Richard will get another shot in the rotation despite allowing four runs on six hits in just 3 1/3 innings Tuesday. Manager Ozzie Guillen said that Richard wasn't fully stretched out, so it was only fair to give the second-year pitcher a pass on his debut as a starter.

MEDICAL WATCH:

LF Carlos Quentin (sore left heel) did not play May 12. He entered the May 13 game as a sub and said he should be able to play May 15.

CF Brian Anderson (sore right oblique) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 30. He began a rehab assignment with Class AAA Charlotte on May 13, and he could be activated by the White Sox as soon as May 15.

CF Dewayne Wise (separated right shoulder) went on the 15-day disabled list April 14. He hopes to be ready to start a rehab assignment in late May and return to the White Sox in early June.
