--RHP Jose Contreras made his debut with Class AAA Charlotte on Wednesday. The veteran threw six shutout innings, allowing just three hits in the win. This was good news for the Sox, after Contreras asked to be demoted to Charlotte to try to fix himself after an 0-5, 8.19 ERA start with the big-league club. Contreras told manager Ozzie Guillen he needed to pitch in order to get better this season, and the bullpen would make it too hard for him to get consistent innings.
--OF Brian Anderson showed no signs of the strained right oblique muscle lingering in his first rehab start with Charlotte on Wednesday, going 2-for-4 while hitting in the No. 3 spot. Anderson could be activated as soon as Friday, joining the team in Toronto for a four-game series. If he is, expect INF/OF Brent Lillibridge to be the odd man out. --INF/OF Jayson Nix has started in the leadoff spot in back-to-back games. The search for a consistent leadoff hitter is ongoing. Nix has started atop the lineup three times so far, replacing a suddenly slumping Chris Getz. The way it looks now, manager Ozzie Guillen may keep shuffling that spot, going with whoever is hot. Getz is in an 0-for-11 rut.
MEDICAL WATCH:
LF Carlos Quentin (sore left heel) did not play May 12. He entered the May 13 game as a sub and said he should be able to play May 15.
CF Brian Anderson (sore right oblique) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 30. He began a rehab assignment with Class AAA Charlotte on May 13, and he could be activated by the White Sox as soon as May 15.
CF Dewayne Wise (separated right shoulder) went on the 15-day disabled list April 14. He hopes to be ready to start a rehab assignment in late May and return to the White Sox in early June.
