Whitesoxclub.com | Chicago White sox News, whitesox Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - --3B Josh Fields was given the same treatment as Alexei Ramirez was earlier this month on Friday, as Fields was benched in the wake of his .130 batting average over his last six games. "You know, if I did it to Ramirez, it's not fair for the guys that keep fail, fail, fail, and you keep them in the lineup," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "In the meanwhile, Ramirez will say, 'It wasn't for everybody, it was just for me.' (Fields) is not in the doghouse, this isn't punishment, but (Jayson) Nix is swinging the bat well and that's why he is playing." Fields made no excuses for his current slump, as well as the numerous strikeouts that have been a part of it. "There's just something wrong going on," Fields explained. "I'm missing fastballs early that I'm just fouling off, not even putting pitches early on in play, which is leading to a lot of strikeouts. It's been me, it's been my swing. I don't know if it's been being tired or doing too much early work for defense, but we're figuring it out. I hit early (Friday). We think we might have figured out something that I've been doing with my hands that has been making me late on fastballs. Hopefully that will be it. They're giving me a day to regroup and think about what's going on."
--OF Brian Anderson went hitless in Game 1 of the doubleheader with Class AAA Charlotte on Friday but did have two hits in Game 2. That doesn't mean he'll be joining the team in Toronto just yet, however. Thursday's rainout for the Knights knocked the outfielder and his strained right oblique off schedule in his rehab assignment, so his return to the big-league roster has been pushed back a few days. "I don't know," manager Ozzie Guillen said of a return date. "The plan right now is we're going to play four games here. Maybe before we leave Toronto he might be here, but for me he's got to play a couple of more games, see how he feels and then we'll take it from there." --INF/OF Jayson Nix continued to show off his versatility on Friday, not only starting in the leadoff spot yet again, but playing third base for a slumping Josh Fields. Before this season, Nix could count on one hand how many starts he had at third in the last five season, but with Brent Lillibridge struggling and Nix swinging a hot bat, he has become Guillen's main reserve player.
--C Corky Miller will start at least one of the three remaining games with the Jays, according to manager Ozzie Guillen, especially with the remaining three all day games. But giving A.J. Pierzynski a breather hasn't necessarily been a bad thing for the club, as they have gone 5-2 in games that Miller has been starting behind the plate, while Sox pitchers have a 3.14 ERA with Miller catching them.
MEDICAL WATCH:
LF Carlos Quentin (sore left heel) did not play May 12. He entered the May 13 game as a sub and said he should be able to play May 15.
CF Brian Anderson (sore right oblique) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 30. He began a rehab assignment with Class AAA Charlotte on May 13.
CF Dewayne Wise (separated right shoulder) went on the 15-day disabled list April 14. He hopes to be ready to start a rehab assignment in late May and return to the White Sox in early June.
