Chicago White Sox Notes, Quotes 2008-04-18
--2B Alexei Ramirez might find himself in the lineup this weekend in Tampa Bay because of the offensive struggles of Juan Uribe. "You might see Alexei playing second base in Tampa," Guillen said. "I don't know. I try to see how that can happen. We started with him in the outfield and he had a little tough time, so I played (Carlos) Quentin."

--DH Jim Thome continued climbing up the record books on Thursday. He picked up his 1,464th and 1,465th career walks, passing Willie Mays for 18th on the all-time list. On Wednesday, Thome hit a first-inning home run -- No. 510 -- leaving him one behind Mel Ott for 21st all-time, and two behind Ernie Banks and Eddie Matthews.

--LF Carlos Quentin hit two home runs. Manager Ozzie Guillen was actually entertaining the idea of starting OF Brian Anderson in left field in the series finale with Baltimore, but decided against it.

--RHP Javier Vazquez and LHP Mark Buehrle will make one more start in the rotation in this order, but with Monday's off day, the Sox could flip them back to how they were to start the season. With a rainout and off day last week, they opted to move Vazquez in front of Buehrle to not only give Buehrle an extra days' rest, but because Buehrle can pitch better taken out of a regular routine. They will likely make the decision over the weekend in Tampa Bay.

--C A.J. Pierzynski's 100-game errorless streak came to an end Thursday after the catcher misfired a ball down to first base on a third strike that got away. It wasn't the best night for Pierzynski, who also went hitless.

BY THE NUMBERS: 46-15 -- Runs by which the Sox have outscored Detroit in six meetings so far this year.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Just because of last year, it's important we come out of the box doing the things we didn't do last year like drawing walks, hitting behind runners and just all these things that come up in a game, like a guy knocking a ball down to save a run or bunting a guy over. A lot of the things we didn't do last year, we've already done better this year. That's important. But the record, again, it's better to win than lose, but it's a long way to go." -- 1B Paul Konerko on the team's 7-4 start.
