arhat Definition

An arhat (also known as arahant) is a person who has attained nirvana through the purification of his or her mind of the defilements, and who is liberated from the cycle of rebirth, craving, and suffering. This individual is said to have overcome all forms of ignorance, and achieved a high level of spiritual realization in Buddhist tradition.
